Pregnancy completely changes a woman’s body. While I, like most women enjoyed beautiful thick and dense hair during pregnancy, suddenly 2-3 months postpartum, I started losing them.
There was hair all over, on the bed, on the floor, a bunch of it in the comb and I was losing my head over it. That’s when I thought of reading about hair loss post-pregnancy.
Why does it happen?
In the regular course of time, while our new hair grows, some of it rests and soon the resting hair falls off and new hair takes its place and grows longer.
During pregnancy, most of our hair is resting, and hence we experience such lush, voluminous hair. After delivery, the level of estrogen goes down and our resting hair starts falling off, this is also known as ‘Telogen Effluvium’. This usually lasts three to seven or eight months post-delivery. But due to a hectic lifestyle and other changes in the body, it can stay for longer and make hair fall even worse.
What can you do about it?
The first thing should be to leave aside all the chemically-laden hair products. Try “Ghar ke nuskhe” or buy natural products available in the market.

Here is how you can make your own onion oil at home:
Take some onions, make a paste in your grinder, heat coconut oil and add the onion paste, let it turn brown. When it cools, you can strain and store it. Applying this regularly will give you your healthy hair back. Additionally you can put few drops of Vitamin E oil in your onion oil and apply.
Methi or Fenugreek seeds are considered to be one of the most effective remedies for hair fall.
Fenugreek is known to be beneficial against hair fall and dandruff, and also in treating other scalp issues like dryness of hair, baldness, and hair thinning. There are several ways to make methi hair mask/pack, you can try this simple one –
Soak Methi seeds (1 -2 tablespoon) overnight. In the morning make a paste, apply this paste over your scalp and leave for 15-20 minutes, wash it off with plain water.
Curry leaves work like magic when it comes to hair. You can make a hair pack, or infuse curry leaves in coconut oil, or include curry leaves in your diet. You can chew a few curry leaves every morning for 2-3 months, you will see the difference.
Start practicing yoga and meditation too, more often than not, hair fall is an outcome of stress and an unhealthy lifestyle.
