Design Ideas for Small Kitchens

Design Ideas For Small Kitchens. Interior designs. Indian Homes

We humans practically spend a lot of our time in the kitchen, often more than the time we spend in our bedrooms ( barring the sleep time). A well designed kitchen will help you work efficiently, exude positivity and dish out happy and delicious meals!

We moved to our new home few months back and designing the kitchen was one of our main focus. We had Kiran from “Ideas” design the kitchen and some other parts of our home.

Kitchen designing takes a lot of efforts and thoughts and after all that gruelling work I knew I had to share it with my readers.

Here are some tips coming from the Expert-

Few details that can enhance a small kitchen

In a small kitchen playing with colors can make a lot of difference. It is all about creating an illusion, an illusion of larger space and colours help do that wonderfully.

When you have a small kitchen, anything that’s above the counter top should be kept light. Light cabinets and light backsplash gives you a feel of an open and airy space, and gives an illusion that the space is a lot larger than it actually is.

One of the things that can add to a kitchen space is under cabinet lighting. They are not very difficult to install and are also cost effective. They cast light down on the backsplash and the counter top, again giving an illusion that the space is bigger than actual.

Create a focal point. This adds character to an otherwise small space. A highlight wall will make the whole space stand out.

While designing the kitchen keep in mind all the appliances that you will be needing and create a customised space for it to fit in. Do not fill up the precious counter top space in a small kitchen with appliances and utensils.

Design the kitchen in a way that all your daily use utensils and spices are handy and can be kept back in place easily so that they do not crowd the counter top while you are cooking.

Long upper cabinets give an illusion of height and make the ceilings look higher. Makes a world of difference in a small space.

Smaller space needs better management and organising, do hire a professional if you are unsure about the details.
